View Full Version : Norries in Chelsea tops

Particularly around the Blackpool area.

Mind, many seem to be the "new" norries but, still, it grates.

This not a pot at you Shammy, fair enough if you're following your boyhood club.

But for Irish (even "new" Irish) to be following a club that traditionally was one of the most rabidly anti-Irish in England is fucking daft.

It shouldn't be, no. Unfortunately it often is and to stick your head in the sand on the topic seems a little simplistic

A lot of Africans have understandably more of an allegiance with Chelsea and Arsenal, as there are more Africans on those teams

I don't get this Sunderland bandwagon at all though

We all like to see a Corkman doing well, but "Gaffer 16"

Ah, yes, Drogba and Essien would be factors alright I guess.

Mind, I'm not talking about those "new" norries, saw a few oriental and indian types as well. Lots of indigenous ones too though.

This is disturbing me (further), I thought Cork would be immune to this sort of thing.

Dubs, fair enough but Cork. Disgusting.

Keano's success is a big fuck off to all those high paid half assed cunts that dominate the game.

It shows his methodology as being honest and cements him as a beacon of hope for this ever downward- spiralling game that we love

"if youre gonna get paid 30 grand a week, the least you can do is track back" ---> legend--> deserved of bandwagon

I realise this

I'm a huge fan of Keane

i don't have to wear a Sunderland shirt to prove it though

I find that a little embrassing

You can appreciate a player without having to follow the team he is involved with
I hope they well and all that but.....

He will probably be gone from them in a few years anyway

Thats fair enough but I think Stevie's point was more along the lines of 'Where the fuck have all these new Cork based Makim fans come from?' It just shows how fickle people can be in their support for teams. My ol man is calling Sunderland 'us' aswell.......Unbelie vable. They'll be back in the Championship soon enough and the furore will die down. I am a big admirer of Keane and his principles but I cannot stand the bandwagon mentality in Ireland.

I don't have to do research on this old bean, I was reading about it not the other day.

"Asians" don't see themselves as a group. Only Europeans do. File under "them there to the East". Like I say, the Chinese always view the West as starting at Pakistan and India.

I would presume they would rather be referred to as Koreans, Chinese, Mongolians, Mandarins, Tibetans etc but whining about my use of "Oriental" rather than "Asian" is just silly.

Have to pull you up on this Lamps. That is a weak arguement fella. Utd are obviously a hugely supported club in Ireland,so having a replica top on with a local boy's name (who's also team captain) is nothing unusual. The fact that there are now fellas wearing the top of a team who hail from the North east of England, with little or no history of having Irish support is a completely differnt kettle of fish. Young lads picking a team to support may choose Sunderland now because of all the hype, but I guarantee you when it all goes tits up, they'll be back to supporting Utd, Liverpool, Celtic etc.

Are the people of Europe not clased as Europeans in certain circumstances?

I see where you are coming from but i just thought i'd point this out to a man of your considerable intellectual might.

“In the United States, Ireland and Australasia (Australia and East
Asia), since approximately 1990 "Asian" has been considered a more
politically correct term for "Oriental", which previously referred to
people from China, Japan, and Korea and other East Asian countries.
This is partially due to the fact that the term "Orientalism" in
academia has become associated with the European colonial attitude
toward the Ottoman East.”

Do you refer to black people as coloured?

See, I have a very simple attitude to this.

First, I refuse to be colourblind or pretend like differences in nationality or race don't exist.

Second, I like the fact that Cork has all sorts mixing around now. Big improvement.

If you want to get hung up on my use of the term "Oriental" work away.

Odd that its on half a million fucking takeaway signs though.

Maybe they just prefer "Asian" because it has no 'r' in it.
