In GAA, I mean. Where does your main allegiance lie?
(I'm kind of aiming this at people who would at least understand the question. If you're not sure who your local club is, but will watch Cork hurlers when they're on the TV, then this thread is probably not for you.)

I think most would have to say club. These fellas are the ones you go to school with, have a pint with, live next to, etc. Ok theres more glory and recognition attached to the county scene but I think I'd rather win an All Ireland with the club than with the county. I'd even put winning a county above an inter-county AI medal.

Interesting.
Would it be accurate to say then that if you're actually any good at hurling or football you're more likely to identify with the club? And what effect do people think having a family background with the club has on your level of support for them?
I ticked 'county' by the way. Being blow-ins, we were never that involved with the club in the first place, and I only played up to u-14 level (due to not being all that good). There was a time in my teens where I'd still have gone to all the club matches, but I've drifted away in recent years due to not living in the area any more. Still glad to see them doing well, like, but that's about it. On the other hand, there's a family history of involvement with the Cork County Board, and I've always supported the county team (particularly the hurling team) first and foremost.
I don't know does this make me less of a GAA man in some peoples' eyes. Perhaps it does. Dhera, so be it.

oh tough question, my club (as in admin and club management) were wankers but the players and the teams i played in & coached were dead on, and i really do miss that aspect of home, but i am from cork and would always support the county. saying that if it came down to playing for club or county, i would prob take club though. if it weren't for the clubs, there would be no county team

Were you involved with one of the hurling clubs in London for a while, or am I thinking of someone else?

oddly for me the answer varies from one code to the other.
until a few years ago, my club was almost exclusively a football team, where as in my heart i always considered myself a hurling man, so when it came to hurling there wasn't any doubt about where my main alligence lied.
football would have been a much closer call, probably would have leaned towards my home club on that one, having said that two guys who would have played for the club, played at county level too, one of them even became captain

Club all the way. No matter how good or bad you are, its the beginning and the end. Club success can be more personally satisfying also. County is great too though

*bump*
Because there's the stirrings of a debate going on in the Cork hurlers thread on this issue that I think can be more usefully thrashed out here.

Without the Club there is no County team.
It means everything.

Stupid question.Youghal wining the premier intermediate championship would mean more to me than cork winning an all ireland.

Hmm, well, in soccer, I'd have said my own club as I was directly involved with them.
I have little or no connection to my local hurling club at home so I might as well say the county team.
