If Cork vote in a big load of FF'ers again, we'd better not hear any more moaning when Cork is left high and dry for infra-structural projects.

Again.

Michael McGrath (FF) for me.

This Michael McGrath? Stand up guy it seem...

Controversial rezonings in Cork

The greenbelt area around Cork city has been opened up for development, in defiance of the local senior planner and An Bord Pleanála....

......One of the major beneficiaries of this is Castlelands Construction, owned by Mallow businessman, John Barry, who plans to build hundreds of houses and apartments in the Bishopstown area......

....suggestions that there may have been a conflict of interest involved in this initiative......

The elected members of the Carrigaline area committee of Cork County Council voted in favour of the new roundabout at Garrendarragh, Bishopstown in July 2006 to service a proposed new private hospital, as well as a park-and-ride facility and a new cemetery.
The decision opened up for development the lands owned by Castlelands Construction. The roundabout proposal was vigorously opposed by the senior planner in the county, Nicholas Mansergh (brother of the Fianna Fáil Senator, Martin Mansergh).
Mansergh had also opposed the application for the hospital development stating the application was grossly excessive and three times larger than the plan originally submitted for the hospital
An Bord Pleanála also had refused permission for the roundabout and a proposed access road on safety grounds. It did so because it said this would cause traffic congestion on an already busy stretch of road, close to the existing Bandon roundabout......

....However, he says that the real motivation behind the proposal was to facilitate the plans of Castlelands Construction on lands with an estimated value of €100m.
"I hold that the green belt in Bishopstown is sacrosanct," Canty told Village. "But the members of the committee gave the go-ahead for the roundabout because of the hospital, the park-and-ride and the cemetery access. These may have been red herrings as there are a lot of developers with their eyes on the green belt and this could open it up between Bishopstown and Ballincollig. Castlelands are the main beneficiaries of this decision. Planning in the county has gone crazy over the past few years." ......

.......The roundabout proposal was proposed to the area committee by Fianna Fáil councillors, Michael McGrath and Mark O'Keefe

Interesting.

I'd heard stories associating him with another developer before, but not Castlelands.

Although, that may be not for this thread...

Chalk it down. Politics is too local. McGrath or Clune in for Dennehy in South Central. Thats about the only major change therell be in Cork. One point made in the debate last night which I thought was excellent (cant remember who said it) was basically that FF candidates are saying they disagree with party policies on the doorsteps. OFlynn is a master of this and McGrath is doing it wholesale in South Central as well.

All of a sudden theyre all against the airport debt (contrary to party policy) but it doesnt matter a fuck, they have no weight at the cabinet table but theyll say any shit to get a seat and a whopper of a salary.

FF aren't going to gain seats but theyre not going to lose anymore than 2 in the county IMHO. At least if they get back in it might be with labour or the greens who might help to keep tabs on them.

More of a tactical punt to win this instead of a fair reflection of what I believe! A bit like the people contesting the election I suppose!

Im mentally preparing myself for the sight of O'Flynn topping the poll in north central so I wont slash my wrists next Friday!

That sounds dodgy out about McGrath. Typical FFers - sucking the cocks of the property developers.

I only met him once before when he came canvassing to our house when I was about 14/15, but he didn't make a great impression. Seemed kinda patronising when he realised nobody of voting age was in, but more importantly I live in Carrigaline (where he's been a councillor for years) and the place is a typical Celtic Tiger town - a disorganised mess with over-crowded schools, where nothing has been built in the last ten years, except for thousands of houses.

And in South Central:
1. Mehole Martin
2. Coveney
3. Boyle
4. Lynch
5. Clune

I know only one seat for FF is probably wishful thinking, but anyone from Cork who votes for FF after the disdain they treat Cork with is a gullible moron. Anyone who votes for John Dennehy is semi-retarded.

My bet is on a Fianna Fáil / Labour coalition.

PDs won’t have enough to go back in with Fianna Fáil. FG and Lab won’t have near enough seats between them…..more because of FG than Labour. The biggest cock up Enda Kenny made was saying that under his government the top 3% of earners would be better off.

Trevor Sargeant will demand too much political reform (corporate donations etc) for FF or FG to get into bed with them so Pat Rabbite is going to be king maker.

Little or no change in Cork with Clune or McGrath replacing Dennehy in South Central and Fat Flynn’s vote taking a slight dip in North Central. Depressing but realistic.

If Enda Kenny resigns after a particularly poor result for FG I think FG should wind up altogether and merge with another party. They’ve little or no policies that stand out from FF.
