Manchester City defender Michael Ball has admitted a Football Association charge of violent conduct.
Television replays showed Ball stamping on Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo during the Manchester derby on Saturday, which City lost 1-0.

Ball told City's website: "I deeply regret what I did and have accepted the charge without hesitation. I have also sent a personal apology to Cristiano."

The 27-year-old is set to be banned for three games after Thursday's hearing.

Ball added: "My action should not be seen on a football pitch and I know we have a responsibility at Premier League level to set a good example to the whole football community.

"I am proud of my disciplinary record and have never been sent off in my professional career."

Ronaldo converted a penalty to win the game for United - after he had been tripped by Ball.

In an eventful game for the 27-year-old, Ball went on to win a spot-kick for his team when Wes Brown was adjudged to have brought him down but Darius Vassell missed the chance to earn City a point.

Did anyone see that he was paying Rangers to play towards the end of his Rangers career. Looks like he picked up a thing or two from a certain "Billy" Muscat.

Scumbag of the highest order. I hate ronaldo with a passion but no player deserves this treatment.

And it wasn't just the stamp on him it was as if he was out to foul Ronaldo and put him off his game all day. I dont like the way Ronaldo conducts himself from time to time but I think most football fans would rather see a geniune talent rip apart an also ran footballer who uses serious foul play to try and unsettle him.

Ronaldo might cut out the diving if more people did that to him. Brady was right when he said people would start to have it in for him because of his vanity and arrogance.

micheal ball simply isnt a good enough defender to handle ronaldo...if he was he wouldnt have to resort to kicking him and in fairness ronaldo was looking for that penalty and ball gave the ref no option!

"I could not believe it," Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said. "I don't know what got into him. I don't know if it was instructions, or he was hyped up. It was incredible."

if wenger said that hed be in soho right now signing another directdebit payment.

They should put Fergie in Prison and hand the league to to Man City

All of those 2,500 pound fines are crippling Wenger i'd say

Oh give over. Wenger with all his touchline antics this season should have been in the stand for 3 or 4 games the way he carried on.

Nothing wrong with what Fergie said. Whatever happened to the right to free speech.
