View Full Version : Kewell might make the final
This'll give a decent percentage of Liverpool fans a stroke if it happens.

Yup Philby called it a while back
Good tactic
Start him
Get him injured as Milan dominate
Bring on a proper player
Comeback and win:)

Benitez has been resting him all season for the big one so that there isn't a repeat of his last ill-fated final appearance.

true. Bet he tells all the guys at West Brom about his 'success'.
Think he might have played some cameo against Brondby though in the group stages:D

you could be right. Remember Fergie bringing on a few squad players against Brondby at home so thought he might be one.

i was benitez biggest fan when the pool got him.
upfortheba reckoned he was a bluffer....
After the champions league win we revisted. I reckoned he was fuckin brilliant. Upfortheba stayed stummish enough on the matter. As time goes on, he goes down in my estimation more and more. The guy is starting to go down my houllier road...
hope im wrong.

kewell the jewell!! what happened to player that left leeds a few years ago...what a prospect, although to be fair i thought he was improving alot before his injury
He was shit for Leeds for the best part of 2 or 3 years before he joined the Pool (barring one-offs like the game against the Arse in '03), etc.

Second half substitute Kewell helped create a goal for Xabi Alonso (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/squad/alonso/) and then scored the last gasp equaliser from the penalty spot that ensured Liverpool a third place finish.
"Kewell was fantastic and he tried to beat players, had shots and scored so it was really good for us," enthused Benitez.
"Harry has been training well and we will see how he is when we go on our training camp. He is certainly in my thoughts for the final and he could be on the bench but we will see.
"The other positives to take from this game was we finished third and didn't pick up any injuries. We didn't play well and made too many mistakes defensively but the day was all about Robbie Fowler and it was fantastic to see the supporters applauding him.
"It would have been perfect had Robbie scored in front of the Kop and it was a pity we got a penalty just after he had left the pitch. I wanted Robbie to take the applause from the crowd and that is why I took him off and it was unfortunate."
I'd nearly take the quote above as confirmation that he is very likely to start. If he can get his fitness up while at the pre-final training camp in Spain I can see it happening.
Has he earned the right to play in the final? No.
Is he most likely Liverpool's most potent current left-wing threat (even with fcuk-all match fitness)? Yes, by a mile. He is a far more rounded player than any of his competitors for that role and showed it on Saturday with a fine cameo appearance, assist & goal.
As a player Benitez certainly rates him very highly..don't be surprised in the least if he starts in Athens.

i wonder about rafa sometimes but i guess his record in europe speaks for itself
still, putting too much faith in a player who went off injured in his last 2 finals would be a concern but maybe harry will win the cup for us.... stranger things have happened i guess

He has the ability, it's the match fitness you've got to question. Still, seems like a bit of a risk to keep him as a sub (as if he breaks down you may have no subs left). Personally I think he's our best option for the left and if Rafa thinks he can compete at this level after such a long stretch out he should start him, otherwise not consider him for selection at all.
