French, English sides to lift Heineken Cup boycott threat

08/05/2007 - 9:10:40 AM

The ERC is expected to announce good news for next season's Heineken Cup later today.

The top-flight sides from France and England have all threatened to boycott the competition due to a dispute over voting and shareholding rights.

However, the ERC is expected to announce today that it has agreed a deal to bring the French and English clubs back into the fold following weeks of intensive negotiations.

I bet sport was hardly mentioned in the discussions. Commercial tie ins, payments, rights etc. In other words all money but that is rugby for you.

2,500 - an average Eircom League crowd - turned up for the national rugby club final a few days ago. You probably missed it since it only got byline coverage being meaningless to the Munstershire fans

Owned and Exposed again eddie

No different to GAA or Soccer deals I expect.

Crowds as good as if not better than woefull declining G.A.A. league games attendances.

I assume you're on about the Con v garryowen game.

Club rugby is now just a feeder system for the provincial and international setups.

Eddie you are a bluffer. If ever there was a argument to be made for the Munster Bandwagon, well this is surely it. a week on and still not as much as a murmer about the showpiece event of the domestic game. Interesting to note that the crowd in Musgrave Park was about 2,500. Where was the legendary Munster rugby supporting public for an all Munster final which was played in Cork? Numbers down slightly from the estimated 70,000 who travelled to Cardiff last May.

You can always tell a Munstershire man by asking him what Rugby team he supports, a proper rugby supporter would reply Cork Con or Garryowen, whatever, a bandwagon jumping, clueless tosser would reply "Munstershire"

An ERC Shareholders meeting took place in Dublin today with IRB Chairman Dr. Syd Millar...
An ERC Shareholders meeting took place in Dublin today (Tuesday, 8 May) with IRB Chairman Dr. Syd Millar, which included representatives from the six Shareholder Unions and representatives from the Club bodies from England (PRL), France (LNR), Italy (LIRE) and Wales (Welsh Regions).

All parties reaffirmed their commitment to the long term future of the Heineken Cup and European Challenge Cup and to providing a stable future for both ERC tournaments.

The parties reached a conditional agreement, which, on completion of discussions between RFU and PRL over the next two weeks, will ensure the long term future of both European tournaments and the participation of the leading teams from all six competing nations. All parties are working towards a final agreement by the weekend of the Heineken Cup Final at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday, 20 May.

It was confirmed that the participant teams will be Club / Provincial / Regional teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and in the case of England, France and Italy, Club teams from the top professional leagues in each country.

You would beat your son just because he decided of his own free will to wear a Munster Rugby Jersey ?

Christ you must have had some awful cruel childhood in some semi-rural backwater.

Well after all begrudgery denotes self doubt and low self-esteem which is why you seek attention by knocking others for the sake of it.

Its all starting to make sense.

I am starting to feel sorry for you.

it wouldn't happen in the first place, I would indoctrinate him at the easiest possible age with anti Munstershire sentiments. I was just illustrating how much I detest Munstershire and their fellow travellers

Indoctrinate ?

Christ if my kids and their team/friends/school decided to play Camogie,Chess,Gaa, Rugby whatever I would be happy for them and encourage them to find the sport that they enjoyed the most rather than dictating hatred and negativity despite my personal preferences.
Kids rebel anyway and do what they want so tread carefully.

This is is Angela's Ashes type of stuff.

Do carry on.

I am intrigued.

But the hardest part is finding and convincing a female to put up with him in Ballymagash in the first place.

But you would never know.
