I'm not sure if a player can win both but Ronaldo should get them. That or Ronaldo as young player of the year with Scholes taking the senior award.

Technically a player can win both but they tend not to be a bit more diplomatic and give the senior award to older player...could well see him getting both but no-one other than him or Drogba has a chance for the senior award imho
Nice to see Doyle getting some recognition (although I'm still not convinced about him).

I personally think they need to change the focus of the young player award. The likes of Rooney , Ronaldo and even Fabregas are experienced and are some of the more highly valued premiership players . I'm pretty sure this award was introduced to give recognition to players who've emerged out of nowhere. Maybe the award should be just for players who are only in their first or second premiership season.
Also ,do Giggs and Gerrard really deserve a nomination? Gerrard has been good , but hardly as immense as he has been in the past.
No nomination for Essien is a disgrace as well imo.

Carragher, Rio and Carvalho must be annoyed that defenders rarely get a look in (okay Terry did last year)
Also, Essien has deserved a place in that list ahead of at least one player

Essien missing out for Gerrard is a joke. Giggs has had one of his best years this year but again not ahead of Essien.
Also Rooney does'nt really merit the young player award either even though he has 19 goals now.

Rooney, Gerrard and even Richards (to a lessor extent), are in there probably because they are English

token nominations for giggs and gerrard. both have played well, but not up to their own high standards, and certainly not good enough to be nominated as player of year (season???). agreed on essien, really stepped up his game this season.
i don't really like these player awards, it's a popularity contest more than anything. c ronaldo should probably win it. but, if chelsea do the quadruple, people would be arguing for drogba a lot more.

I dunno. I'd agree with Rooneys. He has done enoug to get a nomination IMO. He gets into good positions, holds the ball up well, creates space for others by dragging defenders with him. Its not all about goals. He's become a much better all round player and has been very much a playmaker for United this season. The fact that United are up for the treble still says alot. The Rooney and Ronaldo link up has been very successful this year.

rooney, ronaldo and fabregas in the young player section is a joke. they've all been around for 3 or 4 years. rooney doubly so becasue hes had a relatively poor season. they should use that list to praise the likes of carson and foster and other guys who are having their first real prem season.

Cristiano Ronaldo has shown this season he is the “most exciting player in the country”, according to Professional Footballers’ Association chief executive Gordon Taylor.
The 22-year-old winger is among three Manchester United players to have made the shortlist for the prestigious PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, which will be presented following a gala dinner in London on Sunday night.
It has been a remarkable season for the Portugal international, who had been linked with a world-record move to Real Madrid or Barcelona but last week agreed a new, five-year contract at United.
Ronaldo took his goals tally to 21 following a strike in the FA Cup semi-final win over Watford and last week’s double in the Champions League rout of AS Roma at Old Trafford.
Taylor said: “Cristiano is the most exciting player in the country at the moment – the quickness of his feet and the skills he possesses make you think, at times, that he is from another planet.
“He is much more of a team player now and, as is the test of all great forwards, he knows how to find the back of the net – as he has done on so many occasions this season.”
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is also on the six-man shortlist.
The Ivory Coast international, 29, has netted 30 goals to keep the Blues on the heels of United in the Barclays Premiership and also on track for FA Cup and Champions League glory to add to their Carling Cup final triumph.
Taylor said: “What I have liked about Didier this season is the way he has committed himself to the Chelsea cause and how he has maintained such excellent form, even when Chelsea have been going through a sticky time.
“Didier has, arguably, been Chelsea’s best and most consistent performer this season – no mean achievement when he is playing alongside so many top-class players at Stamford Bridge.”
Like Ronaldo, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, 19, has also been nominated in the PFA’s Young Player of the Year category.
The Spaniard has once again been a consistent performer in what has been an indifferent season for the Gunners.
Taylor said: “He has been a marvellous player for Arsenal who, when they are in full flow, are wonderful to watch – with Fabregas usually at the heart of every move.
“He is the one who makes them tick and, to see him so composed in the midfield action area, you would think that there is a much older head on those young shoulders because he has such remarkable vision and perception of what is going on around him.
“He is going to be a player for all seasons if he keeps going the way he is.”
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, winner in 2006, is shortlisted once again.
Taylor said of the England midfielder, 26: “This is a true sign that Steven has carried on from where he left off last season. He continues to lead by example, either as captain of Liverpool or midfield dynamo for England.”
United winger Ryan Giggs and his team-mate Paul Scholes complete the six-man nominees.
Taylor said: “The sight of Ryan flying down the wing is, to this day, one to behold and we still remember the wonder goal he scored against Arsenal in the FA Cup a few years ago.
“Even now, at the age of 33, he glides across the pitch, almost effortlessly, and it has been a privilege to watch him in action over such a long period of time.”
On Scholes, 32, Taylor added: “Paul has been a mainstay of the United side and his remarkable consistency is one of the main reasons why United have been leading the way for the majority of the campaign.”
Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney, 21, will be looking for a hat-trick of Young Player awards, having won the accolade in both 2005 and 2006.
Taylor said: “Wayne is not a selfish player, very much a team player and he has shown, especially when asked to play up front on his own for England, that he can adapt to different roles.
“He is willing to have a go in whatever position he is asked to play, and will come through. In the fullness of time I am convinced that Wayne will be an all-time great.”
Reading striker Kevin Doyle, 23, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, 19, and 18-year-old defender Micah Richards, of Manchester City, who won his first England caps this season, are the other nominees.
Although voting among the players themselves is now finished, supporters will get their chance to take part in a public “Guess The Winners” vote on-line and through Sky Sports interactive services.

If it was for Player of the Month I'd agree but it's player of the year. Rooney had a stinking season until February and he's done well since. Ronaldo should win this if there's any justice. Having Rooney in there and no Essien is a farce.

Essien isn't young enough for that award
Stinking is way OTT by the way Rooney was pretty good for many games at the start of the season
And thinking about, naming 5 young players much better overall is hard
I agree that established players like Rooney and Ronaldo shouldn't be maybe considered, but then again, didn't "Big Al" win it once?

I know that. All I'm saying is that the people who choose these things haven't a fucking scooby.
You want players who aren't included that have been better than Rooney?
How about Agbonalahor? He's been brilliant for Villa, even played out of position. How about your own boy Foster?
Anyone who chose Rooney in a shortlist of players of the season had their head up their arse. Seriously Stevie, the qualifications for someone looking to be a winner of this should read a lot better than "Had a good March/April and was pretty good for many games at the start of the season"

With due respect
Rooney has a nomination for young player of the year
Essien is 25
That point is null and void
Rooney and Essien were NOT nominated for player of the year
Essien should have been though
To the other point
While the young Villa player, who has been good lately, was being part of an underwhelming Villa team for the whole season and playing well in only stages, Rooney, alos under par at times, was getting hat tricks at Bolton, playing well against Liverpool, scoring at Arsenal, getting 19 overall plus loads of assists and helping a united team to a massive goal and points haul with some good team play
Not to mention a very good FA cup run
By his high standards, not as good as previous years, but hardly a farce
by the way this has been voted by the players
They play against him
It's why i took back my English bias comment

Different awards so a non argument
The players pick them, and they are picked earlier in the season
No suprise to me why they pick Giggs as he has had a good season
I would have had only one of him and Scholes in though with the ginger shading it
Essien not there IS a mockery, as i said in my first post

again cant understand the nomination of ronaldo rooney and fabregas in this category, agree with the other posts that they are established premiership stars at this stage regardless of age and this category should be for those players whose have perhaps been the "surprise" of the season, notable mentions for both keepers scott carson and ben foster who have been excellent for their respective clubs along with agbonlahor, lescott and nicky shorey.

They're not proper nominations in the true sense of the word.
The players votes have already been counted and they(the pfa) already know who has won it. The 'nominations' are just the top 6 vote getters.
1: Drogba, 2: puffball. probably.

How is Drogba a menace in EVERY game? He did fcuk all at Anfield, cant say he stood out against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge (besides his cameo with Lehmann) and resorted to elbows against Vidic in the league game at OT.
Also didnt he go 11 games or something without scoring a premiership goal against teams outside the relegation zone?
For me its Ronaldo, Drogba 2nd, Scholes 3rd.
Essien's exclusion I'll say again is a joke.

No idea if this is true or not (and depending on fluctuating results two players for different clubs could play a vastly different amount of games against teams in the relegation zone...not a particularly watertight barometer of form that one) but Drogba has in no way been a flat-track bully...he has scored against Liverpool, Barcelona, Newcastle, Everton, Arsenal (2) & Valencia this term...

This is 2007 Newcastle not 10 years ago. Scoring against THAT defence should be compulsory!! I'll obviously give you all the rest though. He's had a great year and I definitely second the comment about his defensive qualities when he is back defending set pieces. Top notch in that department. Ronaldo still shades it for me though. -AmadeusDC-

Ronaldo. Best player in the Prem this year without doubt.
i pulled you up on your original quote at the time for this very reason. you're a good poster ronny, despite a few 'gaffs' that i called you on. there's just no need for the over hyping and general circle jerking that goes with c ronaldo.

The reason I said a small bit better is that Drogba has produced the goods in Europe. Ronaldo has been very hit & miss. Regarding the Premiership ronaldo has been a good bit better.

One player who I think was very unlucky to miss out on the young player nominations is Daniel Agger. He has taken a major step up in class on his arrival in English football and, rather than looking out of place, has been immense.
He had some huge shoes to fill in Sami Hyppia's but he has slotted in so well that the huge Finn has hardly been missed. Centre-half is a very tough position for a youngster to excel in but Agger hasn't looked out of place at all & compliments Carragher very well at the back for Liverpool.
A top player in the making.

This is a very simple decision. The winner will be from whichever team wins the league as each has been instrumental in their team's challenge. So, barring calamity, it'll be Ronaldo and rightly so.

Agger had a tough night last night but shouldn't get discouraged. Drogba on that kind of form is nearly unplayable...at times you just have to accept that you can't win the ball off him and set up your side to cope with what he does after he wins the ball.
Agger should take last night as a lesson in how to deal with uber-physical strikers who are keen on the theatrics and learn from it...an improved performance next week would be a good start.
