Made my first visit to the club last Saturday night having seen the forum here. Only caught the last act of the night though. I didnt realise it was a competition until the end so to be fair to the guy lets say he has a lot of work to do and he didn't come first or second. The crowd went mad when the MC came back on though so I was sorry I missed the rest of the show.

Two things though.
1. The air conditioning is brutal. Place was rammed and very stuffy. Possibly another reason why the crowd was so muted for the last guy....fuck all oxygen in there!

2. Not having a band playing at the same time in the other part of the bar would go a long way. The place was jointed and at the bar in the back room it was a bit hard to hear the stage with the band. the PA could have been a bit louder too.

Fair play to everyone involved though, even though the awfully named "Eddies bar" has lost the buzz that LV once had, it's great to see the local comedy scene ticking over nicely. Ill definitely go back for another blast.

Craichouse - do ye have a comedian called Bob Hennigan booked for sometime in May by any chance?

I must agree with what permanentmarker has to say, it was very warm inside which was'nt expected and the doors can't be open or you are lost to the band, but the matter will have to be dealt with. The place was well packed which is great for the comedians and if the crowd is somewhat mutted...well that'a in part down to the MC who was me.. so I must take some blame here but also in my defence there were 8, yes 8 comedians in the competition that night too many perhaps but what do you say to a young comedian wanting to enter and only available that night, it's hard to say no but a balance must be brought in. The craichouse is growing from strenght to strenght, yet every week when we are outside we still dont know if we will have a crowd or not but I have to say my God we have come across some of the next generation's top comedians here in the craichouse. The biggest kick has to be when after a show someone comes up and ask's how can they get started in doing stand up comedy or when a comedians has just done stand up for the very first time you can see the look in their eye...their bitten by the appulase..they will do it again. So more work to be done at the craichouse for the benefit of the audience and the comedians.

Definitely need them to sort out the Air Conditioning, by the end of the night you are breathing in more beef farts and BO than oxygen, I'd imagine its what Mary Harney's pants smell like with her arse still in them. And that 2nd rate Wedding Band playing in the F'ING DOORWAY seriously bother me, if I hear them hack up "Sweet Home Alabama" one more time I am going to bite somebodies face. Crowd was fun but kind of drained by the end. I enjoyed all the comics and this leg of the copetition was a lot tougher then I thought it would be, one thing though no one, other than the headline act, called the fact that they were doing comedy in a sauna to a Lynard Skynard backing track. I find when comics go straight into their routine without mentioning s*it like this it beocomes a little contrived. By the way the third comic who went on Damon Blake from Australia, was fantastic, his set was one of the best I've seen from a newcomer in ages and he looked a little bit like Bill Hicks (pre stomach cancer). Jamie O'Shea and Pauline Curtin were unlucky to not go through as well but all ensured a good wholsome night of family fun.

What I seem to find dissapointing is that no female comedian has gone through to the next round, I've certainly seen one that I thought might have but did not, I have found that the material used by the female comedians to be at time far better than that used by their male counterparts, yet no success. The last night of the competition saw 3 female contestants and Pauline was excellent far different drom any of the other comedians male or female yet no result so question is what is it that the female comedians are lacking ( I know what your thinking but no not that ) or is the comedy scene just completly male dominated...somethin g for the Lisa Richards to look in to.
