Breaking the Ice between cultures, Religions and Nationalities, we strive for tolerance and understanding in the belief that our humanity will unite us. Our journey from Jerusalem to Tripoli 5,800 km, through the Sahara desert took us the participants; Mohammad azzam Al-arjah of (PALESTINE) Colonel Ray Benson (USA) Gil Fogiel (ISRAEL) Galit Oren (ISRAEL) Yevgen Petrovich Koshushko (UKRAINE) Neda Sarmast (IRAN) Capt. Daniel Patrick Sheridan (USA) Dr. Latif Yahia (IRAQ) one month to complete with no influence from the outside world these disparate people had the time to get to know one another without the prejudices that the world places upon them. It is a monument to the fact that when all the misconceptions and cultural stereotyping is taken away we can all live together and like each other. This Peace Misssion took place in March of 2006 , there will be a book to chronicle the journey through the Sahara which has captured some of the most breathtaking sights and touching moments of the mission,

Surely it is acceptance we should strive for...

Im happy to integrate with anyone and do the best I can to make them feel welcome in Cork but if they believe, for example, killing homosexuals and oppressing women is a belief we should respect then I have a big problem with that.

I met an Iranian in Cork recently who told me I had to respect his view that gays were evil and should be put to death. The irony of using the word 'respect' was shocking to say the least. I told him I couldnt but disrespect him for it.

Well done, I mean it. I live here and conduct myself correctly, as an ambassador of another country should. Respect should only be given when earned and I'm glad to say it has.

Chalk it down. the other thing you have to remember is that if you go out to Turners Cross for a match youll hear Irish people chanting 'so-and-so is a homo-sexual'. That might be a long way from sentencing them to death but you have to put the Iranian's view into context. Theyre not going to have Graham Norton camping it up on Iranian State Television every week so theyre completely unconditioned.
