Lahinch in Co Clare.
About a 30 minute drive.

Yea, been up to Lahinch a few times alright - good spot alright! Drunken conversation, but remember someone telling me of a sweet spot nearer to Galway itself!!

No sure to be honest pak, but Lahinch is by far the best spot on the west coast.

there's a wicked spot near easkey, sligo. i dunno what the travel time would be from where you're staying, but it'd be worth it. it's an internationally renowned surf spot.

it's a reef break, and it can get pretty big, so make sure you know what your doing if you decide to go in. it's also facing north westish, so the wind is usually offshore. i haven't been there in years, but it wasn't too busy then  . i doubt you'll get the same crowds as castlegregory etc.

there's also bundoran (reef break) which can get pretty big as well. and there's countless spots in between giving you options if the wind is going haywire.

google easkey surfing and you should get plenty of info.
