SIR TOLD SKY MAN TO F**K OFF
Posted 21/03/07 07:25
EmailPrintSave
Sir Alex Ferguson called Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves a 'f*****g bastard' and told him to "f**k off" after the reporter dared to question Ronaldo over his latest alleged dive.
Sir lost the plot with Shreeves after ManYoo had beaten Boro thanks to the penalty the winking winger won and converted. Upon learning that Shreeves had asked Ronaldo whether there had been any contact before he fell under Jonathan Woodgate's 75th-minute challenge, Ferguson branded it "a poor interview" and claimed he was "disgusted" by the line of questioning.
His tirade at Shreeves continued off-camera, and, according to The Sun, 'Ferguson's foul-mouthed tirade was so loud that a BBC interview with Boro chief Gareth Southgate had to be abandoned'.
Sky are one of the few remaining media outlets in existence which Ferguson has yet to boycott over a perceived sleight, and Shreeves has previously been criticised for his softly-softly approach with the ManYoo boss, most notably after Ronaldo dived to win a penalty at Tottenham last month and he declined to question the Scot over the match-turning incident.
The Sun's transcript in full:
Shreeves: "I asked him..."
Ferguson: "F*****g (inaudible) bastard."
Shreeves: "Don't talk to me like that."
Ferguson: "F**k off to you."
Shreeves: "Don't talk to me like that. Don't even think about it."
Ferguson: "Don't you think about it, you ****. F**k off. Right?"
Shreeves: "Listen, are you going to do the interview in a professional manner or not? Do you want to do it or not?"
Ferguson: "You f*****g be professional. You be professional. You're the one."
Shreeves: "I'm entitled to ask...Cristiano gave the right answer."
Ferguson: "F*****g hell with your answers."
Shreeves: "Don't talk to me like that. Go away. If you want to behave civilly, fine. Don't talk to me like that."
Ferguson: "F**k off." (door slams).

Southgate lost control of his players the other night
Morrisons tackle could have broken Ronaldo's leg (Rooney did well to stay on the pitch after his reaction)
He was kicked all over the pitch as usual
Yakubu and co were whispering in his ear as he took the pen but the boy has composure
Maybe it's becasue he is "too good":)

Ronaldo's grasp of the english still isn't great after 4 years almost. He can speak it but cant understand the questions it seems. Have to say Shreves is someone I like but his questioning was suspicious as if he was waiting for Ronaldo to slip up in his explanations.

What showed a lack of class in my book was the reporter accusing him of cheating yet again, when the kid did nothing wrong
He was kicked all over the field ("Lack of class") and showed one of the few bits of true class in the game
He was well within his right to defend himself in the interview and in the context of it was far from lacking in class

I love how Morrison's 'challenge' has been avoided by all. If it was lets say Wes Brown who done it there'd have been uproar & all sorts of stuff written. Rooney's reaction was stupid but that does'nt take from an awful challenge where the intent to injure was plain to see. Fair play to the ref for having the balls to give him a straight red.

Firtstly he was never accused of cheating by the interviewer and it was fair enough imo that he question him onit considering his track record.
Secondly , I agree with you about 'Boro's lack of class but that doesn't make Ronaldo's comments any better imo.

so you know him personally do you?
Arrogant slimy and disloyal in what way?
the disloyal thing can be knocked right out of the water because every player that has ever been in contract negotiations and knows they can get more will do whatever it takes. Keane did it. Beckham did it and so on. United hail him as pretty much the greatest player in the world so they are going to have to pay him for it. The lad lost his father, had to endure taunts from that bully Van Nistleroy (and believe me, he was some bully at the club once Keano left- he thought he could get away with it then), had false rape allegations thrown at him and the whole nation-as only the english can-turned against him over one wink. Who wouldn't want to get the hell out of England after that but he's still gonna sign the contract from what I hear anyway.
Slimy? explain please.
Arrogant? explain please. He has the least flashy car of all the United lads. he moved his mother in next door to him and he's well liked by all the players in the dressing room. Arrogant people generally don't fit that description of being well liked and less flashy than everyone else.
I'd like actual examples too since you say he's not a nice person.
This isn't a United bias thing by the way I just bawk at generalisations. His general play wound me up something savage. i thought he was selfish and a diving little b*****d but he's really come through for United when they need him. So I was wrong about him and I'm the first to admit that.

It was a peno, end of story
The defenders genearlly don't admit when they get tackles wrong

imo it's not as clear cut as your making it out to be. there was minimal contact, but he went down way too easily. i think players should be obliged to stay on their feet as long as possible, and that goes for gerrard or garcia, or whoever you decide to wheel out.
he felt a bit of contact and went down. i take your point on the 'at full pace', but i reckon he could easily stayed up. but, 15 mins to go in a cup tie, it's at old trafford, you feel a bit of contact, what else was he going to do?

Forsberg & Homer J while agreeing with some of what you are saying regarding players going down easily the last time I knew regarding contact in soccer, contact is allowed if the ball is played or if the player is possesion is not detered in anyway. In this case Woodgate slid in, didnt touch the ball, did catch Ronaldo, hence the pen & not only that the ref didnt think twice about booking him either.
I've been a critic of Ronaldo's diving but I dont find this case different from many others in the English game this season & nothing is mentioned. Its a case of Ronaldo being a victim for past crimes rather than a new one.

See this is where the problem is . I honestly believe that Woodgates touch on Ronaldo didn't deter him in any way whatsoever . For me, Ronaldo felt the touch and fell over . There is no doubt in my mind that he could have gone on and scored.
I don't blame Ronaldo for doing it . He knew he'd get a pen because "there was contact" . I just have a problem with this on a wider scale rather than Ronaldo specifically .
I even have problems with the way Andy Johnson goes down very easily . Sure, he draws contact but did that contact impede him enough that he couldn't continue ?- usually no!

its cheating plain and simple. its conning the ref into making a decision. he didn't go down way too easily, he dived. the contact didn't make him go down, he threw himself down. there are situations where very slight contact can throw you off, particularly if youre going at pace, but this wasn't one of them.

Ronaldo was bearing down on goal
Woodgate couldn't catch him so tried to deter him by obstructing his run on goal
A slight but crucial touch that prevented the player from scoring or taking a shot
Woodgate should have gambled that Ronaldo would have missed
Shwarzer (sp) was in flying form and probably would have saved it (though Ronaldo did hit the post from a similar angle minutes before)
Johnson, Gerrard, Henry et al would have done the exact same thing as Ronaldo, in fact Johnson is another player who has been sometimes unfairly treated becasue of his reputation preceding him
Henry, went down in similar situations a number of times while, Gerrard, to use another example, won Liverpool three peno's against Sheffield United this season, the first two of which required a lot less contact than Ronaldos to go down easily, the third was another stonewall

Belgian keeper targets Ronnie
By ANDREW HAIGH
March 21, 2007
BELGIUM have threatened to crock Cristiano Ronaldo in the first two minutes of their clash with Portugal.
Manchester United ace Ronaldo has tormented Premiership defences and scored 18 goals this season.
But Belgian keeper Stijn Stijnen has revealed his side's shocking plans to stop the Portuguese winger on Saturday.
Stijnen wants his team-mates to take Ronaldo out of the game in the opening exchanges of the Euro 2008 qualifier.
He said: "After two minutes, we should have beaten him up so much he would have been stretchered off the pitch.
"What more do we need to do? Portugal have more quality so we have to handle things our way.
"If we try to play like them, we will lose for sure."
Despite his outrageous claims, the Club Brugge stopper was unrepentant when he had the chance to apologise.
Stijnen added: "I do not find my words shocking. We are the visiting team and we have to make the match go our way.
"I do not mean that Belgium have to break the leg of somebody.
"But we do have to be aggressive and we have the players for this."

The Belgians were very agressive against the Germans in 1940 I seem to remember.
Maybe they should stick to making chocolate.

Lads, I'm a bit busy again today. But the point of this is that oul Ginsoak has proven once again that after maybe Paisley, he is the most bile filled orange bastard the world has seen.
You wouldn't get a gent like Wenger or Rafa at this would you.
The same gent called Wenger who calls linesemen liars and has to be physically restrained from assulting opposition managers? Oh yeah. That guy.
