8 tries Wrinkly McGurk would have you know, never mind that THREE contained forward passes. 8 tries gentlemen. Hook was bang on the money this time, its was a disgrace, the Italians had the stuffing knocked out of them with the way they were cheated in the first half and Hooky wasn't having O Shea's, sure "who gives a shite attitude" fostered so well at Sky. For this I say fair bowls George.
O Gara in the biggest moment of his carreer, shat the course. Missed tackles, touches and crucially the conversion that would have given them the title. Never mind the decision to run the last ball, it was the conversions that put the nail in the coffin. In the end he let the country down.
I'll admit my heart was pounding at the last as the TMO did the decent thing, fair play won out in the end. A great Paddys day all round

The sense of exilartion at the end of the French match, I felt was brilliant, I could barely contain myself when he gave the try, commiserating with bandwagoneers whilst secretly ole oleing in my head, it was topped off when they heard the TMO was from Belfast, All I could hear was "orange bastard" from the Oireland brigade, I wonder what Trimble and Best would have thought of it, some disgrace that I had to watch the Club Finals at home over this rugby nonsense

It was a 4-point difference. Over the course of the entire 6 nations, would it really be that hard to pin a loss of 4 or more points on any Irish player you wished to have a vendetta against? Geordan Murphy for that woefully missed tackle against France, for example.
I know next to nothing about sport, but even I know that much.

let the real debate to the big boys then.
the true greats would step up in such situations, jonny would have nailed every kick in the same situation.

Surprised that ye bother to watch it if ye dislike it so much !!!
I see Thornley and Tony Ward losing the run of themselves, picking 8 Irish lads on their dream teamS, ffs

I said I know next to nothing, not nothing. I know the 6 Nations wasn't lost just on Saturday. I know O'Gara's kicking wasn't the reason we lost it, and I also know Jonny isn't Irish.
Even a casual bandwagoner like me knows the single biggest reason Ireland didn't win this year was the last-minute French try in Dublin. Hold that restart ball and France never score, but even then, keeping a French attack, that knows a penalty or drop goal can't win the game, at bay should have been very possible. France scored a soft try, and that, and that alone, is what cost us the 6 Nations. Even a bandwagon fan like me knows that.
Had we won the French game, O'Gara's inability to match the other-worldy Jonny in place kicking wouldn't have mattered a damn, and the hype and hysteria about Ireland being better than the All-Blacks would have been defening. Now, it's almost non-existant.
1 soft try.

Listen here Cidona and listen good, the SFI take our duties seriously. The jock bandwagon hot a brickwall on saturday even with a bent ref trying to swing it for em. It was the day that sport won, for once.
The French proved that when it matters they can step up, a true winners mentality. I was delighted. To hear the shit being spouted by McGurk made it all the more worthwhile. Can you imagine if they won, you'd have the boys cracking open bottles of wine and feeling even more satisfied with themselves. I loved it

Excuse me, were you watching the same game as the rest of us?
Did it escape your attention that the French let Scotland score a try that provisionally handed Ireland the title in the 76th minute?
That left the French needing to do as they had done in Croke Park again, namely score a try from their own re-start with 3 minutes to play. Any fool knows that there isn't a side anywhere in the world would think that was a good position to be in. Letting the Scots over that late for such an important score was almost fatal for the French, and really should have been.
They did the same thing in Dublin, and really should have lost a match they had no real business losing.
Credit to them for managing the Houdini trick of scoring in those circumstances both times, and yes, that does show a determination and mentality that is clearly lacking from the Irish team at the end of games, especially games when O'Driscoll has left the field, but the say that when it matter the Franch can step up and be winner is patently nonsense, as Dublin and Saturday actually showed, even to a bandwagoner like me.
The French proved that when it matters they can step up
Yeah, they really proved it against a shite England team alright.
You know nothing about rugby.

It is not in doubt that this is a poor French team, but they have shown twice now when they need was greatest that they have what it takes.
I posed a question before this championship that this must be the worst quality six nations in years. I think I have been proven right. Its muck of the highest order and the greatest Irish team of all time still can't win it.
That says it all for me

I'm not gonna try and say that this wasn't a monumental fuck up by this Irish team, it was. In my 20-odd years of watching rugby, we've never had a better chance of getting a grand slam and we fucked it up. But why should that make you happy? Would it not have been a good thing for the country if we had won it? Or at least for Irish sport?
Why are you happy that the French have yet another six nations title in the bag?
Lamps, blotting the copybook badly here. The French showing the winners mentality? They destroyed Ireland early on in Croke park, thought the job was done, went to sleep and managed to pull it off at the end. They did the same against the Scots when they had the huge advantage of playing second and knowing what score they needed. Anyone who knows anything at all about sport knows that a true winner is able to kill off the result, not fall asleep and nearly let it slip away. Ireland couldn't, but neither could France. The fact that they were able to motor up the other end for the necessary score just showed that it should have been beyond doubt with 10 to play.
Picking on O'Gara again after Sound handed your ass to you on a plate when you tried to do Wilkinson V O'Gara after the England game? Poor tactic, showing that your heart is getting the better of your head here.
The worst 6 Nations in years? Have you ever watched old 5 nations stuff on ESPN classic? The forwards were lucky to take 3 steps with the ball without dropping it.

Lads, I'm up the walls and can't take all day with this.
1) O Gara bottled it with his conversions, every point counted on the day. Jonny would have nailed every one
2) The French may not be a great team by their standards, but they have routinely beaten the greatest Irish team ever and have won 3 of the last 4 championships. Thats what you call mentality.

Huh?
I couldn't be arsed addressing this as it's a bit, well, random, mad, pointless and to be honest, probably far too much work for my liking at this time of day. If you fancy bringing it up again on a day when I'm feeling nice and energetic, I'll gladly tear it to shreds then but for now, I'm quite enjoying the little punning thing that was going on in here.
I also realise that I'm back here before the end of lent but I was bored in work. I'm not religous so I'm not going to hell or anything but I am going to try to stay out for the next few weeks as it's taking up too much of my time. not good professionally, y'know.
