Axe-cidents happen at Halloween in Camden Palace Hotel. Halloween dungeons extravaganza 24th-31st Oct. 4-9pm.
Electric chairs, hangings, cruel punishments, and unfair trials are all taking place in Camden Palace Hotel for one week only this Halloween. Beginning on the 24th October the Cork based community arts centre is holding a week-long 'Horror Extravangaza' from 4-9pm with the final horror show taking place on Halloween night itself the 31st Ocotber.
Taking on a freaky funfair atmosphere the foyer will host all-ages entertainment and refreshments. Daring guests can take a tour of the Camden Palace dungeons to explore the darker corners of cork city. The visit is guided by a very special blood-sucking guest from Transylvania. Combined with a touch of the dramatic the aim of the event is to bring guests through a dream-like horror that is disturbingly real and absurd at the very same time.
The Camden Palace building lends itself well to the Halloween extravaganza which was partly inspired by the buildings’ own history as Cork city's temporary courthouse. The old courthouse jail cells grafitied by past inmates awaiting trial remain intact and will be open to guests during the week. Far from Hollywood horror other sources of inspiration for the over 16s show include medieval and modern torture methods, and basic human fears and vice.
As an independent non profit arts centre, currently receiving zero funding, Camden Palace Hotel are a self sufficient entity helped along by public donations and the hard work of volunteers. Camden Palace has invested all of their own resources to create a unique experience. The dungeon tour and and games have been designed and constructed by Camden Palace volunteers and crew. The combined effort of resident artists and volunteers has resulted in unique sets, props, and costumes of professional quality. Keeping in line with the economic times Camden Paace has created its own currency for the halloween event available at the entrance desk. Our DollArt exchanges at a rate of 1,000,000,000 to €1 and is valuable within Camden Palace.
To cheer up frightened guests Halloween horrors will run concurrently to jazz weekend festivities in Camden Palace Hotel from 26th-29th. Kicking off on Friday 26th at 8pm a social dance night with live jazz band will be in the Camden Palace ballroom. Saturday 27th 12-4pm a screening of the best Montreux jazz performances in Camden Palace Hotel cinema, a jazzy halloween funeral parade at 4pm starting at the French quarter near Paul street and a final social dance night starting at 8pm.
