An interactive, colourful display, with original costumes, vintage film and theatrical posters, celebrates the intriguing story of Joan Denise Moriarty, doyenne of dance in Ireland. Joan Denise made Cork the centre of Irish ballet for almost half a century; her companies brought the classical repertoire and her own original works all over Ireland and to Europe.
Having been herself a champion step-dancer and war-piper, Joan Denise took the Celtic myths and tales, combined Irish dance steps with traditional ballet, and created inspired re-tellings of the ancient legends. Always an innovator, she would have approved the dramatic atmosphere of this highly original presentation.
Whether you are fascinated by the story of dance, or just want to see inside this unique rotunda building, there is something to delight all ages.
