Ode to Anna Geary: Cork's Camogie Captain Retires

The PROC’s Ode to Cork Camogie captain Anna Geary who recently retired….

We had to read it again to make sure we were seeing clearly,
Yes, it’s true, she has retired:  Cork’s camogie captain Anna Geary.

A week where we had to swallow three league defeats in a row.
Then Anna went and dumped us, leave us feeling really low.

‘It’s not you it’s me’, she said when she put out her press release.
The Echo page soaking up our tears, as we snivelled through the piece.

Ah c’mere, Anna girl we don’t mind if you’re seeing ‘other fellas’,
Especially if it’s just some business course – we promise we won’t get jealous.

Dear Anna, will you reconsider, we’re desperate for your presence.
The Dubs have only one more title, what if we slip into obsolescence?

Of titles they’ve got 26 and thanks to you we’ve now got 25,
Imagine the day we go one ahead, we’ll probably black-out in a haze of pride.

The Pale haven’t been in a final since nineteen eighty six,
We’d surely nip ahead with Anna’s skills, her speed and little tricks.

She even won an All-Ireland club with her home team above in Millford.
Now some college course and a career has our beloved Anna pilfered.

We know you’ve already got more than 20 All-Ireland medals in your sack,
But if you ever change your mind, Captain Anna, Cork will always take you back.
