June 2011: Live Gigs Video Preview

The misery merchants at Met Éireann i have finally given in and decided to give us some fine weather for the weekend and, they say, if we're lucky maybe the whole of June which means this weekend’s big bash in Skibbereen could double the pleasure for punters.

Allegedly God got the idea for paradise from Liss Ard estate where the Cork xSouthWest Festival is kicking off on Saturday. A short distance south of Skibbereen the grounds (once purchased by the Swiss Government who thought they could use it as a cold war base if the Russians invaded) are a spectacular showcase of Cork’s beautiful countryside with a gorgeous lake to die for. But not to die in.

The rest of the month is packed with tons of great live music including the ressurrection of the much-maligned Spiegeltent which will appear at the old Beamish brewery on South Main Street (opposite An Spailpín Fánach).
